My Garage Kit Gallery
My Garage Kit Gallery
ESTABLISHED SEPTEMBER 2005.

Welcome - I hope you enjoy viewing my work. I modify most of my figure kits so that they wind up quite different from the original. (And there is a lot more here than just dinosaurs - so browse on!) I re-discovered the joy of art in mid-life and its been a joy to create and share my vision with others. Art, like all creative gifts, exists to be shared so as to enrich the lives of others.

So this website is my gift to you. If you have an interest in art/sculpting/modeling of all kinds of subjects, I would recommend that you check out the Internet Figure Modeling Clubhouse at

INTERNET CLUBHOUSE and also see

MODEL WARSHIPS.COM

At both sites you will find incredible artists and sculptors, some nationally known. Their work will leave you in awe.

Thank you for stopping by!

Resin in Motion “KING KONG – LAST STAND”

Original resin kit sculpted by Michael Maddi consists of King Kong and the top of the Empire State Building. I modified the original kit by adding chains to the manacle on Kong's wrist, drilling out the portholes and inserting acrylic porthole windows into the openings.

Then I started getting ideas on how to make this magnificent kit appear even grander. First I hit on the idea of getting an “in-scale” biplane model and mouting it above Kong. Then I decided to try to scratch build a part of the Empire State Bldg Tower.

The tower was built using an 8" wide, 14" tall PVC pipe. The 4 tower winglets were fashioned from Balsa wood, the light panel frames were constructed from Plastruct styrene rods which were heated and bent to fit properly, and the 24 light panels were made using clear acrylic rectangles which were painted on the reverse side with neon glow paints. Note that each of the 24 acrylic light panels took 20+ coats of neon paint on the reverse side to achieve the desired color effect. A 1:32 scale ladder from Plastruct was added to the side of the tower.

The tower was attached to the top using wires drilled into holes on the inside of both pieces and secured with Quikplastik resin putty.

I modified a two-tiered round butcher to serve as the base for the kit. The Ann Darrow figure is from the Japanese Coca Cola bottle top set (repainted).

The plane is a Hasegawa styrene 1:32 P-12E biplane kit, which was modified by building a resin putty anchor "plug" inside the center body, into which I drilled a hole for the mounting rod. I then drilled a hole into the rear of Kong's fist to fit the other end of the plane mounting rod. The plane pilot is a 21st Century Toys pilot figure.

Paints used on build were acrylic, then oil washes and oil and acrylic dry brushing, sealed with matte sealant, with neon paint for light panels. The Completed kit is 40” tall from the bottom of the base to the top of the plane’s wings.
