My Garage Kit Gallery
My Garage Kit Gallery
ESTABLISHED SEPTEMBER 2005.

Welcome - I hope you enjoy viewing my work. I modify most of my figure kits so that they wind up quite different from the original. (And there is a lot more here than just dinosaurs - so browse on!) I re-discovered the joy of art in mid-life and its been a joy to create and share my vision with others. Art, like all creative gifts, exists to be shared so as to enrich the lives of others.

So this website is my gift to you. If you have an interest in art/sculpting/modeling of all kinds of subjects, I would recommend that you check out the Internet Figure Modeling Clubhouse at

INTERNET CLUBHOUSE and also see

MODEL WARSHIPS.COM

At both sites you will find incredible artists and sculptors, some nationally known. Their work will leave you in awe.

Thank you for stopping by!

King Kong on Empire State Kitbash - Tony Cipriano Kit

When Tony Cipriano revealed his new "Kong Up Top" kit of Kong on top of the Empire State Building Dome in Aug 2023, I knew I had to get it.

Its the best Kong kit I ever worked with, so I decided to re-create the 103rd & 102nd floors of the Empire State Building that sit just under the dome.

This was accomplished using wood circles, wood donuts, a 14" PVC pipe piece, lots of styrene strips and acrylic panes painted gloss black on the rear to simulate glass. Model ship doors were added with custom painted vinyl windows added. Porthole windows are also acrylic circles painted gloss black on the rear and then glued on the porthole openings.

Plane is an in-scale 1:20 Curtiss F9C Sparrowhawk made from wood that I mounted in the right pose. There were no available 1:20 1930s biplane kits available, so this pre-painted desktop display model had to do.

Since the Sparrowhawks were designed to be launched and retrieved "in-flight" from the Navy's giant airships Akron and Macon (that's what the hook contraption on top of the wing is for), I also built an AMT 1:520 scale Macon model to fly high over the scene, courtesy forced perspective - creating an "alternate Kong 1933 timeline" where its the Navy's airship that comes to battle Kong.

It turned out fantastic.

Oh, and the chrome steel color of the building was sprayed on with Chrome metal paint from Home Depot.

Lastly, I painted the alcove sky blue and added a cloud.

I had my modeling buddy Jon Legrand (aka "Legrandzilla") paint Kong and Fay Wray for me.

Jon is the best Kong painted out there and he really knocked this one out of the park - especially Kong's eyes.

Enjoy!
