Columbian Mammoth 1/24 Scale

1/24 Scale Columbian Mammoth

The Columbian Mammoth ranged from California to Texas and Florida during the late Pleistocene Period.

14-15' tall at the shoulder and weighing 10-15 tons it was among the biggest members of the Elephant family to ever walk the earth. It was closely related to the Siberian Steppe Mammoth and went extinct about 10,000 years ago.

I was inspired to make this figure by the Columbian Mammoth from the British Sci-Fi TV series 'Primeval'.

Basically I took a Chap Mei African Bull Elephant toy, and, with a quickplastic/wood putty mix, added the thicker Mammoth features to the face, (cheeks, eyes, top of head including the domes, higher back hump). The trunk was lowered by incisions and insertion of several additional putty 'wedges'. The lower jaw and mouth was built from scratch with putty as the original toy really didn't have one due to the head being made to move up and down. The tusks and ears were obtained from a Chap Mei "Viking Tusker" figure (basically a poorer version of a Woolly Mammoth with all sorts of battle gear moulded all over it). Then a little texturizing before the putty dried, then paint and - VOILA!
